Owners of mechanical vehicles and their trailers must register (re-register) them with an authorized body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or carry out departmental registration if such registration is mandatory by law, regardless of their technical condition, within 10 days from the moment of acquisition (receipt), customs clearance, re-equipment or repair, if it is necessary to make changes to the registration documents.

Number plates of the appropriate type shall be installed in the designated places on mechanical vehicles (except trams and trolleybuses) and trailers.

Registration numbers assigned by the relevant authorized bodies are applied to trams and trolleybuses.

It is prohibited to change the dimensions, shape, symbols, color or placement of number plates, except for fixing the rear number plate on additional equipment intended for the temporary transportation of luggage or cargo, to apply additional markings to them, or to cover them; they must be clean and sufficiently illuminated.

The following identification signs (Appendix 4) shall be installed on the relevant vehicles:

a) "Road train" - three orange lamps arranged horizontally above the front part of the cab (body) with intervals between the lamps from 150 to 300 mm - on cargo vehicles and wheeled tractors (class 1.4 t and above) with trailers, as well as on articulated buses and trolleybuses;

b) "Deaf driver" - a yellow circle with a diameter of 160 mm with three black circles of 40 mm diameter applied inside it, positioned at the corners of an imaginary equilateral triangle, the apex of which is directed downward. The sign is placed at the front and rear of vehicles driven by deaf or deaf-mute drivers;

c) "Children" - a yellow square with a red border and a black image of the symbol of road sign 1.33 (the side of the square is not less than 250 mm, the border is 1/10 of this side). The sign is placed at the front and rear of vehicles transporting organized groups of children;

d) "Long vehicle" - two yellow rectangles measuring 500 x 200 mm with a red border 40 mm wide made of reflective material. The sign is placed on vehicles (except route vehicles) at the rear, horizontally (or vertically) and symmetrically to the longitudinal axis, whose length is from 12 to 22 m.

• Long vehicles whose length with or without cargo exceeds 22 m, as well as road trains with two or more trailers (regardless of the total length), must have an identification sign placed at the rear (in the form of a yellow rectangle measuring 1200 x 300 mm with a red border 40 mm wide) made of reflective material. A black image of a cargo vehicle with a trailer is applied to the sign, and their total length in meters is indicated;

e) “Driver with disability” - a blue square with a side of 150 mm and a white image of the symbol of plate 7.17. The sign is placed at the front and rear of mechanical vehicles driven by drivers with disabilities or drivers transporting passengers with disabilities;

f) "Orange plate" - an orange rectangle with a reflective surface and a black border. The dimensions of the sign, the inscriptions of the identification numbers of danger and dangerous cargo, if such are required, and its placement on vehicles are determined by the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road;

g) "Hazard sign" - an information plate in the form of a diamond on which a hazard sign is depicted. The images, dimensions and placing of the plates on vehicles are determined by the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road;

h) "Column" - a yellow square with a red border into which the letter "К" in black is inscribed (the side of the square is not less than 250 mm, the border width is 1/10 of this side). The sign is placed at the front and rear of vehicles moving in a column;

i) "Doctor" - a blue square (side - 140 mm) with an inscribed green circle (diameter - 125 mm), onto which a white cross is applied (stroke length - 90 mm, width - 25 mm). The sign is placed at the front and rear of cars belonging to driver-doctors (with their consent).

• If the identification sign "Doctor" is placed on a vehicle, it must contain a special medical first-aid kit and tools according to the list determined by the Ministry of Health for providing qualified aid during a road traffic accident;

j) "Oversized cargo" - signal boards or flags measuring 400 x 400 mm with alternating red and white diagonal stripes applied to them (width - 50 mm), and in the dark or in conditions of insufficient visibility - reflectors or lamps: white at the front, red at the rear, orange on the side. The sign is placed on the extreme outer parts of the cargo protruding beyond the dimensions of the vehicle by a distance greater than that provided for in paragraph 22.4 of these Rules;

k) "Maximum speed limit" - an image of road sign 3.29 indicating the permitted speed (sign diameter - at least 160 mm, border width - 1/10 of the diameter). The sign is placed (applied) at the rear on the left of mechanical vehicles driven by drivers with less than 2 years of experience, on heavyweight and oversized vehicles, agricultural machinery whose width exceeds 2.6 m, vehicles carrying dangerous goods by road, in the case of transporting passengers by a cargo vehicle, as well as in cases where the maximum speed of the vehicle according to its technical characteristics or certain movement conditions determined by the National Police is lower than that established in paragraphs 12.6 and 12.7 of these Rules;

l) "Identification automobile sign of Ukraine" - a white ellipse with a black border and the Latin letters UA applied inside it. The axes of the ellipse must be 175 and 115 mm long. It is placed at the rear of vehicles engaged in international traffic;

m) "Vehicle identification sign" - a special strip of reflective film with alternating red and white stripes applied at an angle of 45 degrees. The sign is placed on vehicles at the rear, horizontally and symmetrically to the longitudinal axis as close as possible to the outer dimension of the vehicle, and on vehicles with a van body - also vertically. On vehicles used for road works, as well as on vehicles and their equipment having a special shape, the sign is also placed at the front and on the sides.

• The identification sign is placed mandatorily on vehicles used for road works, agricultural machinery whose width exceeds 2.6 m, as well as on vehicles having a special shape. On other vehicles, the identification sign is placed at the request of their owners;

n) "Taxi" - squares of a contrasting color (side - at least 20 mm), arranged in a checkerboard pattern in two rows. The sign is placed on the roof of vehicles or applied to their side surface. At least five squares must be applied;

o) "Training vehicle" - an equilateral white triangle with its apex upward and a red border, into which the letter "Н" in black is inscribed (side - at least 200 mm, border width - 1/10 of this side). The sign is placed at the front and rear of vehicles used for driving instruction (it is permitted to install a double-sided sign on the roof of a passenger car);

p) "Studded tires" - an equilateral white triangle with its apex upward and a red border, into which the letter "Ш" in black is inscribed (side of the triangle - at least 200 mm, border width - 1/10 of the side). The sign is placed at the rear of vehicles fitted with studded tires.

Identification signs are placed at a height of 400-1600 mm from the road surface so that they do not restrict visibility and are clearly visible to other road users.

To mark a flexible coupling during towing, flags or boards measuring 200 x 200 mm are used with diagonal alternating red and white stripes made of reflective material 50 mm wide applied to them (except for the use of a flexible coupling with a reflective coating).

The emergency stop sign in accordance with GOST 24333-97 is an equilateral triangle made of red reflective strips with an inner red fluorescent insert.

It is prohibited to apply to the outer surfaces of vehicles images or inscriptions that coincide with the color schemes, identification signs or inscriptions of vehicles of operational and special services provided for by DSTU 3849:2018.
