16. Passing intersections
| 16.1. | An intersection where the order of passage is determined by traffic light signals or by a traffic controller is considered regulated. At such an intersection, priority signs do not apply. If the traffic light is switched off or operates in flashing yellow mode and there is no traffic controller, the intersection is considered unregulated, and drivers must be guided by the rules for passing unregulated intersections and by the relevant road signs installed at the intersection. |
|---|---|
| 16.2. | At regulated and unregulated intersections, when turning right or left, the driver must give way to pedestrians crossing the roadway onto which the driver is turning, as well as to cyclists moving straight in the same direction. |
| 16.3. | If it is necessary to give way to vehicles moving on the intersecting road, the driver must stop the vehicle before road marking 1.12 (stop line) or 1.13, or before the traffic light so as to see its signals, and if they are absent, before the edge of the intersecting roadway, without creating obstacles for pedestrian movement. |
| 16.4. | It is prohibited to enter any intersection, including on a traffic light signal permitting movement, if a traffic jam has formed that would force the driver to stop at the intersection and create an obstacle for the movement of other vehicles and pedestrians. |
| 16.5. | When a signal is given by a traffic controller or a traffic light signal permitting movement is switched on, the driver is obliged to give way to vehicles completing their movement through the intersection, as well as to pedestrians finishing their crossing. |
| 16.6. | When turning left or making a U-turn on a green signal of the main traffic light, the driver of a non-rail vehicle is obliged to give way to a tram of the same direction, as well as to vehicles moving in the opposite direction straight ahead or turning right. Tram drivers must also be guided by this rule in relation to one another. |
| 16.7. | If the signal of a traffic controller or the green traffic light signal simultaneously permits the movement of a tram and non-rail vehicles, the tram is given priority regardless of its direction of movement. |
| 16.8. | A driver who has entered the intersection of roadways according to a traffic light signal permitting movement must leave it in the intended direction regardless of the traffic light signals at the exit. However, if at intersections there are road marking 1.12 (stop line) or road sign 5.69 before the traffic lights along the driver's route, the driver must follow the signals of each traffic light. |
| 16.9. | When moving in the direction of the arrow switched on in an additional section simultaneously with a yellow or red traffic light signal, the driver must give way to vehicles moving from other directions. When moving in the direction of a green arrow on a plate installed at the level of the red signal of a vertically arranged traffic light, the driver must take the far-right (left) lane and give way to vehicles and pedestrians moving from other directions. |
| 16.10. | At an intersection where traffic is regulated by a traffic light with an additional section, a driver who is in the lane from which the turn is made must continue moving in the direction indicated by the arrow switched on in the additional section if stopping at a prohibiting traffic light signal would create an obstacle for vehicles moving behind in the same lane. |
| 16.11. | At an intersection of roads of unequal importance, the driver of a vehicle moving on a minor road must give way to vehicles approaching this intersection of roadways on the main road, regardless of the direction of their further movement. |
| 16.12. | At an intersection of equivalent roads, the driver of a non-rail vehicle is obliged to give way to vehicles approaching from the right, except at intersections where roundabout traffic is organized. Tram drivers must also be guided by this rule in relation to one another. At any unregulated intersection, a tram, regardless of the direction of its further movement, has priority over non-rail vehicles approaching it on an equivalent road, except at intersections where roundabout traffic is organized. Priority of movement at unregulated intersections where roundabout traffic is organized and which are marked by road sign 4.10 is given to vehicles already moving in the circle. |
| 16.13. | Before turning left and making a U-turn, the driver of a non-rail vehicle is obliged to give way to a tram of the same direction, as well as to vehicles moving on an equivalent road in the opposite direction straight ahead or to the right. Tram drivers must also be guided by this rule in relation to one another. |
| 16.14. | If the main road at an intersection changes direction, drivers of vehicles moving on it must be guided in relation to one another by the rules for passing intersections of equivalent roads. Drivers moving on minor roads must also be guided by this rule in relation to one another. |
| 16.15. | If it is impossible to determine whether the road has a paved surface (darkness, mud, snow, etc.) and there are no priority signs, the driver must assume that he is on a minor road. |
