11. Positioning of vehicles on the road
| 11.1. | The number of lanes on the roadway for the movement of non-rail vehicles is determined by road markings or road signs 5.16, 5.17.1, 5.17.2, and in their absence, by the drivers themselves, taking into account the width of the roadway in the relevant direction of travel, the dimensions of vehicles, and safe intervals between them. |
|---|---|
| 11.2. | On roads having two or more lanes for movement in one direction, non-rail vehicles must move as close as possible to the right edge of the roadway, except when overtaking, bypassing, or changing lanes before a left turn or U-turn. |
| 11.3. | On roads with two-way traffic that have one lane for movement in each direction, in the absence of a solid road marking line or relevant road signs, entering the oncoming traffic lane is possible only for overtaking and bypassing an obstacle or for stopping or parking near the left edge of the roadway in populated areas in permitted cases, while drivers moving in the opposite direction have priority. |
| 11.4. | On roads with two-way traffic that have at least two lanes for movement in one direction, it is prohibited to enter the side of the road intended for oncoming traffic. |
| 11.5. | On roads having two or more lanes for movement in one direction, entering the far-left lane for movement in the same direction is permitted if the right lanes are occupied, and also for a left turn, U-turn, or for stopping or parking on the left side of a one-way road in populated areas when this does not contradict the rules of stopping (parking). |
| 11.6. | On roads having three or more lanes for movement in one direction, trucks with a permitted maximum mass of more than 3.5 tons, tractors, self-propelled machines, and mechanisms are allowed to enter the far- left lane only for a left turn and U-turn, and in populated areas on one-way roads, in addition, for stopping on the left in permitted cases for loading or unloading. |
| 11.7. | Vehicles whose speed must not exceed 40 km/h or which for technical reasons cannot develop such speed must move as close as possible to the right edge of the roadway, except when overtaking, bypassing, or changing lanes before a left turn or U-turn. |
| 11.8. | Movement along tram tracks of the same direction, located on the same level as the roadway for non-rail vehicles, is permitted provided that this is not prohibited by road signs or road markings, as well as during overtaking or bypassing, when the width of the roadway is insufficient to bypass without entering the tram tracks. At an intersection, it is permitted to enter tram tracks of the same direction in the same cases, but provided there are no road signs 5.16 - 5.19.3 before the intersection. A left turn or U-turn must be made from tram tracks of the same direction located on the same level as the roadway for non-rail vehicles, unless another traffic procedure is provided for by road signs 5.16, 5.18, or marking 1.18. In all cases, obstacles must not be created for tram movement. |
| 11.9. | It is prohibited to enter tram tracks of the oncoming direction, tram tracks separated from the roadway, and the dividing strip. |
| 11.10. | On roads where the roadway is divided into traffic lanes by road marking lines, it is prohibited to move while occupying two lanes at the same time. Crossing broken marking lines is permitted only when changing lanes. |
| 11.11. | In heavy traffic, changing lanes is permitted only for bypassing an obstacle, turning, making a U-turn, or stopping. |
| 11.12. | A driver turning onto a road that has a lane for reversible traffic may change into it only after passing a reversible traffic light with a signal permitting movement and if this does not contradict paragraphs 11.2, 11.5, and 11.6 of these Rules. |
| 11.13. | Movement of vehicles on sidewalks and pedestrian paths is prohibited, except when they are used for carrying out work or servicing trade and other enterprises located directly near those sidewalks or paths, in the absence of other access roads and subject to compliance with the requirements of paragraphs 26.1-26.3 of these Rules. |
| 11.14. | Riding on the roadway by bicycles, mopeds, horse-drawn carts (sleighs), and riders on horseback is permitted only in a single file in the far-right lane as far to the right as possible, except when bypassing. A left turn and U-turn are permitted on roads with one lane for movement in each direction and without tram tracks in the middle. Movement along the shoulder is permitted if this does not create obstacles for pedestrians. |
