10. Starting movement and changing its direction
10.1.

Before starting off, changing lanes, and making any change in the direction of movement, the driver must make sure that this will be safe and will not create obstacles or danger for other road users.

10.2.

When entering a road from a residential area, yards, parking places, filling stations, and other adjacent territories, the driver must, before crossing the roadway or sidewalk, give way to pedestrians and vehicles moving along it, and when leaving the road, to cyclists and pedestrians whose direction of movement is crossed by the driver.

10.3.

When changing lanes, the driver must give way to vehicles moving in the same direction in the lane into which the driver intends to move.

When vehicles moving in the same direction change lanes simultaneously, the driver on the left must give way to the vehicle on the right.

10.4.

Before turning right or left, including in the direction of the main road, or making a U-turn, the driver must in advance take the appropriate extreme position on the roadway intended for movement in this direction, except when the turn is made upon entering an intersection where roundabout traffic is organized, the direction of movement is determined by road signs or road markings, or movement is possible only in one direction established by the configuration of the roadway, road signs, or markings.

A driver making a left turn or U-turn outside an intersection from the corresponding extreme position on the roadway of the given direction must give way to oncoming vehicles, and when performing these maneuvers not from the extreme left position on the roadway, also to vehicles moving in the same direction. A driver making a left turn must give way to vehicles moving in the same direction in front of them and making a U-turn.

If there are tram tracks in the middle of the roadway, the driver of a non-rail vehicle making a left turn or U-turn outside an intersection must give way to the tram.

10.5.

A turn must be made so that when leaving the intersection of roadways, the vehicle does not end up in the lane of oncoming traffic, and when turning right, one should move closer to the right edge of the roadway. Leaving an intersection where roundabout traffic is organized may be carried out from any lane if the direction of movement is not defined by road signs or markings and this does not create obstacles for vehicles moving in the same direction on the right.

10.6.

If a vehicle, due to its dimensions or other reasons, cannot make a turn or U-turn from the corresponding extreme position, it is allowed to deviate from the requirements of paragraph 10.4 of these Rules, provided this does not contradict the requirements of prohibitory or mandatory road signs, road markings, and does not create danger or obstacles for other road users. If necessary, to ensure road safety, assistance from other persons should be sought.

10.7.

A U-turn is prohibited:

a) at railway crossings;

b) on bridges, overpasses, flyovers, and underneath them;

c) in tunnels;

d) where road visibility is less than 100 m in at least one direction;

e) at pedestrian crossings and closer than 10 m from them on both sides, except in the case of a permitted U-turn at an intersection;

f) on motorways and roads for automobiles, except at intersections and in places marked by road signs 5.29 and 5.30.

10.8.

If there is a deceleration lane at the place where the road is left, a driver intending to turn onto another road must timely change into this lane and reduce speed only in it.

If there is an acceleration lane at the place of entry onto the road, the driver must move along it and merge into the traffic flow, giving way to vehicles moving on that road.

10.9.

When a vehicle is moving in reverse, the driver must not create danger or obstacles for other road users. To ensure safety of movement, the driver must, if necessary, seek assistance from other persons.

10.10.

Reversing of vehicles is prohibited on motorways, roads for automobiles, railway crossings, pedestrian crossings, intersections, bridges, overpasses, flyovers, in tunnels, at their entrances and exits, as well as on sections of roads with limited visibility or insufficient visibility.

Reversing is allowed on one-way roads provided the requirements of paragraph 10.9 of these Rules are observed and it is impossible to approach the object in any other way.

10.11.

If the trajectories of vehicles intersect and the order of passage is not determined by these Rules, the driver must give way if the other vehicle is approaching from the right-hand side.
