This exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine concerns road safety when passing through intersections, particularly sections with roundabouts. Such situations often occur in cities, and mistakes in determining priority lead to conflicts and accidents, which is why tasks on determining the order of passage are regularly included in the theoretical exam.

The question tests knowledge of the section of the Traffic Rules regarding passing intersections, specifically the application of point 16.12 and understanding the meaning of road sign 4.10 "Roundabout." If the intersection is uncontrolled and there are no priority signs, a separate rule applies at the roundabout: priority is given to vehicles already circulating in the roundabout. Therefore, a driver who is only approaching to enter the roundabout must yield to those already on the roundabout.

That is why the correct answer is the option where the blue car goes first: it is already moving in the roundabout and has priority according to point 16.12 of the Traffic Rules of Ukraine. The alternative option (where we go first) mistakenly relies on the "obstacle on the right" rule for equivalent roads, but for intersections with organized roundabouts, this rule does not determine priority between those on the roundabout and those just entering. Understanding this difference helps to confidently answer exam questions and safely enter roundabouts in real-life situations.

Clause 16.12

At an intersection of roads of equal importance, the driver of a non-rail vehicle must yield to vehicles approaching from the right, except at intersections where a roundabout is organized. This rule must also be followed by tram drivers among themselves. At any uncontrolled intersection, a tram, regardless of the direction of its further movement, has priority over non-rail vehicles approaching it on a road of equal importance, except at intersections where a roundabout is organized. At uncontrolled intersections with a roundabout, which are marked with road sign 4.10 "Roundabout," priority is given to vehicles already moving in the circle.

Explanation of application: if the intersection is marked with sign 4.10 and there are no other priority signs, priority is given to vehicles already moving in the circle (that is, those already at the roundabout intersection). Therefore, the blue car goes first, and yours goes after it.

Clause 33.4 — 33 "Road Signs", 4 "Mandatory Signs", sign 4.10 "Roundabout"

Sign 4.10 "Roundabout" requires driving around the flowerbed (central island) in the direction indicated by the arrows at the roundabout intersection.

Explanation of application: the presence of sign 4.10 confirms that this is an intersection with an organized roundabout, for which (according to clause 16.12) the rule of priority for vehicles already moving in the circle applies.

Clause 1.10 (term "Priority")

Priority — the right to move first in relation to other road users.

Explanation of application: in this situation, "priority" belongs to the blue car as it is already moving in the circle (clause 16.12), so it goes first.

Clause 1.10 (term "Yield")

Yield — the requirement for a road user not to continue or resume movement, not to perform any maneuvers, if this may force other road users who have priority to change their direction or speed.

Explanation of application: your driver, when entering the roundabout, is required to "yield" to the blue car, which has priority (because it is already moving in the circle).

That is, the correct answer is "Blue, your cars," given that according to the definition of the Traffic Rules, priority at an uncontrolled roundabout intersection (sign 4.10) is given to vehicles already moving in the circle, and others must yield to them.

The diagram shows an uncontrolled intersection with a roundabout. This is confirmed by the mandatory sign 4.10 "Roundabout", which indicates that traffic at the intersection moves in a circle around the central island.

Next, it is important to correctly determine the priority. According to clause 16.12 of the Traffic Rules, a separate rule applies to intersections with an organized roundabout: priority is given to vehicles that are already moving in the circle. That is, a driver who is just entering the roundabout must yield to those who are already at the intersection and moving in the circle.

In our situation, the blue car is already on the roundabout and continues to move on it, while we are just approaching to enter. Therefore, it is we who are obliged to yield. The "obstacle on the right" rule does not apply here as it does at a regular intersection of roads of equal importance, because clause 16.12 directly establishes a different order specifically for roundabouts.

After the blue car passes and gives us the opportunity to enter safely, we proceed next.

Thus, the correct answer is "Blue car, your car," since at a roundabout, according to clause 16.12, vehicles already moving in the circle have priority, and we must yield to them.
