Question without image

This is an exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine about the safe execution of maneuvers, particularly reversing. Such a maneuver is considered highly dangerous due to limited visibility, "blind spots," and the fact that other road users often do not expect a vehicle to move backward. That is why the traffic rules specifically establish places where reversing is not allowed, and this is regularly checked in the theoretical exam.

The question tests knowledge of the section of the Traffic Rules concerning starting movement and maneuvering, with the key point being 10.10. It explicitly states that reversing is prohibited at intersections and on road sections with limited visibility or insufficient visibility. The logic is simple: at intersections, the paths of many vehicles and pedestrians cross, and in conditions of limited visibility, the driver cannot reliably assess the situation behind, so the risk of an accident increases sharply.

When analyzing the answer options, it is important to notice the wording. The option with "under overpasses and flyovers" is incorrect because of the word "under": point 10.10 prohibits reversing specifically on overpasses and flyovers, but does not establish a separate ban on reversing under them (of course, provided that the safety requirements of point 10.9 are met). Therefore, the correct choice in this exam question is the combination of prohibitions for intersections and for sections with limited/insufficient visibility, and the option that adds "under overpasses and flyovers" makes the answer incorrect.

Clause 10.10

It is prohibited to drive vehicles in reverse on motorways, roads for automobiles, railway crossings, pedestrian crossings, intersections, bridges, overpasses, flyovers, in tunnels, at their entrances and exits, as well as on road sections with limited visibility or insufficient visibility. Driving in reverse is allowed on one-way roads provided the requirements of clause 10.9 of these Rules are met and it is impossible to approach the object in another way.

This clause directly defines the list of places where reversing is prohibited (which is exactly what the exam question checks).

Clause 10.9

When driving a vehicle in reverse, the driver must not create danger or obstacles for other road users. To ensure traffic safety, the driver must, if necessary, seek assistance from other persons.

This clause is additional: it defines the general conditions for the safe execution of reversing and is directly mentioned in clause 10.10 as a condition for exception (in particular, on one-way roads).

Thus, the correct answer is "Answers 1 and 2," given that according to the definition of the Traffic Rules (clause 10.10), reversing is prohibited in the listed dangerous places (in particular, at intersections and on sections with limited/insufficient visibility), which are covered by options 1 and 2.

Reversing in principle requires the driver to be much more attentive than driving forward, since visibility is worse, "blind spots" appear, and it is more difficult to assess the distance and speed of other road users. That is why the Traffic Rules specifically define places where such a maneuver is unacceptable.

According to clause 10.10 of the Traffic Rules of Ukraine, reversing is prohibited where it creates increased danger due to heavy traffic or limited space for maneuvering. Such places include, in particular, intersections and pedestrian crossings: at intersections, the paths of many vehicles cross, and at crossings, there is a high probability of pedestrians appearing in close proximity to the vehicle.

The prohibition also applies to areas where the driver cannot ensure the safety of the maneuver: bridges, overpasses, flyovers, tunnels (as well as their entrances and exits), railway crossings, motorways and roads for motor vehicles, as well as sections of road with limited visibility or insufficient visibility. In all these places, even a short reverse movement can lead to an accident, because other road users do not expect such a maneuver or do not have the opportunity to react safely.

That is why, among the proposed options, the correct ones are those that cover the list of prohibited places defined in clause 10.10, and this corresponds to the choice that combines the two correct lists.

Therefore, the correct answer is "Answers 1 and 2," since clause 10.10 of the Traffic Rules prohibits reversing in a number of dangerous places (intersections, pedestrian crossings, crossings, bridges, tunnels, motorways, and sections with limited visibility), and only these options together fully comply with the requirements of the Rules.
