55.3. Which of the identification signs is used to mark a bus or minibus when transporting organized groups of children?
UAЯким із розпізнавальних знаків позначається автобус або мікроавтобус під час перевезення організованих груп дітей?
This exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine concerns passenger transportation safety and the proper informing of other road users about increased risk on the road. When a bus carrying children is on the route, drivers around must understand the situation in advance, keep a greater distance, and be prepared for stops and boarding or disembarking. That is why the traffic rules require mandatory special marking of such vehicles.
The question tests knowledge of the section of the traffic rules regarding the transportation of people, specifically the requirements of clause 21.3, as well as the section on identification signs (clause 30.3). It is not about a road sign near the roadway, but about an identification sign that is placed on the vehicle itself at the front and rear when transporting organized groups of children. For the theoretical exam, it is important to clearly distinguish: warning road signs regulate driver behavior on a section of the road, while identification signs identify the vehicle and the conditions of its movement.
Option 1 shows a sign similar to 1.33 "Children," but this is a warning road sign, which is installed before places where children may appear, not attached to a bus. Option 2 corresponds to the identification sign "Convoy" and is used for vehicles moving in an organized convoy, so it does not indicate the transportation of children. Only option 3 corresponds to the identification sign "Children" (a yellow square with a red border and a symbol similar to sign 1.33), which the Traffic Rules of Ukraine directly require for a bus or minibus when transporting organized groups of children.
Clause 21.3
The transportation of organized groups of children is carried out by a bus (minibus) that has the identification sign "Children".
Clause 30.3 (subclause "v", identification sign "Children")
"Children" — a yellow square with a red border and a black image of the symbol of road sign 1.33 "Children" (the side of the square is at least 250 mm, the border is 1/10 of this side). The sign is placed at the front and rear of vehicles transporting organized groups of children.
Clause 33.1.33 — 33 "Road Signs", 1 "Warning Signs", sign 1.33 "Children"
Sign 1.33 "Children" is installed before a section of the road where children may appear from the territory of a children's institution (preschool, school, health camp, etc.) that is located directly adjacent to the road.
Therefore, the correct answer is "Sign 3.", considering that according to the definition in the Traffic Rules, a bus (minibus) transporting organized groups of children must be marked with the identification sign "Children" (a yellow square with a red border and the symbol of sign 1.33), which is placed at the front and rear of the vehicle.
When a bus or minibus is transporting an organized group of children, other road users must be clearly warned about this specifically by means of an identification sign on the vehicle. This requirement is established by clause 21.3 of the Traffic Rules of Ukraine: during organized transportation of children, the vehicle must be appropriately marked.
Among the proposed options, it is important to distinguish between a road sign, which is placed by the roadside, and an identification sign, which is attached to the vehicle. Option 1 resembles sign 1.33 "Children," but this is a warning road sign for drivers approaching places where children may appear (school, kindergarten, etc.). It is not an identification sign for a vehicle, so it is not suitable for marking a bus with children.
Option 2 is the identification sign "Convoy," which is used when vehicles are moving in a convoy. It indicates the organized movement of several vehicles, but not the transportation of children, so in this question it will also be incorrect.
Option 3 corresponds to the identification sign "Children," which according to the Traffic Rules is a yellow square with a red border and a black symbol similar to sign 1.33. This is the sign that is placed at the front and rear of vehicles transporting organized groups of children, so that other drivers immediately understand the nature of the transportation and are more attentive.
Therefore, the correct answer is "Sign 3," because only it is the identification sign "Children" which, according to the Traffic Rules, is installed on a bus or minibus during the transportation of organized groups of children.
