Question without image
This exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine concerns warning light signals and road safety. The orange flashing beacon is not used for “priority” passage, but to draw the attention of other drivers to potential danger: boarding and disembarking of children, road works, movement of oversized or heavy vehicles. That is why understanding the purpose of such a beacon is important for proper behavior on the road during the theoretical exam and in real-life situations.
The question tests knowledge of the section of the Traffic Rules regarding special light signals, specifically the requirements of clause 3.6. According to this clause, the orange beacon may be activated on vehicles with the “Children” identification sign during boarding/disembarking, on mechanical vehicles of road maintenance services while performing road works, as well as on oversized and heavy vehicles (additionally, the Traffic Rules mention agricultural machinery wider than 2.6 m). The key point to remember: an activated orange beacon does not grant priority in traffic; it only warns and requires other road users to be more attentive.
The analysis of the options in this exam question is logical: each of the three listed cases separately allows the use of the orange beacon according to clause 3.6, so the correct answer is the generalized option that combines all these situations. Other combinations of answers are incomplete because they “miss” one of the cases permitted by the Traffic Rules of Ukraine, and therefore do not fully comply with the regulation. In practice, this knowledge helps to respond correctly: reduce speed in advance, increase distance, carefully bypass the work site, and not interfere with road services.
Clause 3.6
The activation of an orange flashing beacon on vehicles with the identification sign "Children," on road maintenance service motor vehicles while performing work on the road, on oversized and heavy vehicles, on agricultural machinery with a width exceeding 2.6 m, does not grant them priority in traffic, but serves to attract attention and warn of danger. At the same time, drivers of road maintenance service vehicles while performing work on the road are allowed to deviate from the requirements of road signs (except for priority signs and signs 3.21, 3.22, 3.23), road markings, as well as clauses 11.2, 11.5, 11.6, 11.7, 11.8, 11.9, 11.10, 11.12, 11.13, subparagraphs "b", "v", "g" of clause 26.2 of these Rules, provided that road safety is ensured. Drivers of other vehicles must not interfere with their work.
This clause checks the knowledge that the orange flashing beacon may be activated specifically on: vehicles with the identification sign "Children," road maintenance service vehicles while performing work, as well as on oversized and heavy vehicles (and additionally — on agricultural machinery with a width of more than 2.6 m), and it does not grant priority in traffic, but only warns and attracts attention.
That is, the correct answer is "Answers 1, 2, and 3," given that according to the definition in the Traffic Rules, clause 3.6 directly provides for the possibility of activating the orange flashing beacon on the types of vehicles listed in options 1–3.
The orange flashing beacon in the Traffic Rules of Ukraine is regarded as a warning signal. It is not switched on to “go first,” but rather so that other road users pay attention in advance to a potential hazard or to a vehicle performing special work or moving with specific features.
According to clause 3.6 of the Traffic Rules, the orange beacon may be switched on, in particular, on vehicles with the identification sign “Children.” Imagine a school bus stopping for boarding or alighting: the beacon is needed so that drivers around become more attentive, reduce speed, and take into account the possible appearance of children near the roadway.
This beacon is also allowed to be switched on mechanical vehicles of road maintenance services while performing work on the road. For example, when a road repair, cleaning, or marking vehicle is operating, it may move slowly, make frequent maneuvers, or partially occupy a lane. In such cases, the beacon warns others not to interfere with the work and to act cautiously.
In addition, clause 3.6 provides for the orange beacon to be switched on large and heavy vehicles (as well as certain agricultural machinery). This is logical, since such vehicles may have significant dimensions, require more space for maneuvering or braking, and need to be noticed in advance so that others can safely pass or overtake them.
It is important to remember the key point: the orange beacon does not grant the right of way. That is, neither “children,” nor road services, nor large vehicles gain the right to ignore others just because the beacon is on; its purpose is to attract attention and warn of possible danger.
Therefore, the correct answer is “Answers 1, 2, and 3,” since clause 3.6 of the Traffic Rules allows the orange flashing beacon to be switched on vehicles with the “Children” sign, on road maintenance vehicles during work, and on large/heavy vehicles as a warning signal without granting right of way.
