This exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine concerns road safety through the proper preparation of the driver for driving. The seating position behind the wheel affects not only comfort, but also the ability to react quickly, operate the steering wheel and pedals accurately, and maintain control in a critical situation. That is why the theoretical exam addresses not the “convenience” of the posture, but its compliance with the requirements of safe driving and driver discipline.

The question checks the section of the Traffic Rules regarding the driver’s duties (point 2.3), in particular attentiveness while driving and the mandatory use of seat belts. The correct seating position means that the back is firmly pressed against the seat back, the hands on the steering wheel remain slightly bent at the elbows, and the legs reach the pedals without strain and with a slight bend at the knees. If the driver leans forward, lacks support, stretches to reach the controls, or is not wearing a seat belt, this worsens control of the vehicle and contradicts the traffic rules.

The analysis of answer options in such tasks is simple: a statement about the correctness of the seating position can only be true when the posture ensures body stability, quick access to all controls without lifting the back from the seat, and compliance with the traffic rules regarding the seat belt. If even one of these conditions is not met, the option about a “correct and comfortable” seating position is incorrect, since it concerns safe driving, not the driver’s subjective feelings. This knowledge helps in practice to avoid fatigue, driving errors, and violations that often cause road accidents.

Clause 2.3 (subclause "b")

To ensure road safety, the driver is obliged to: be attentive, monitor the road situation, respond appropriately to its changes, and not be distracted from driving the vehicle while on the road.

Clause 2.3 (subclause "v")

To ensure road safety, the driver is obliged: while driving a vehicle equipped with seat belts, to be fastened and not to transport passengers who are not fastened with seat belts (except in cases provided for by these Rules).

That is, the correct answer is "No.", given that according to the definition of the Traffic Rules, the driver must be fastened with a seat belt while driving and drive attentively, not creating conditions that worsen control over the vehicle.

A comfortable and correct driver's seating position is not assessed “by eye” or based on whether the person feels comfortable at the moment, but by whether the posture ensures safe driving and compliance with the Traffic Rules. Before starting to drive, the driver must prepare the workspace in such a way as to confidently control the vehicle and not create danger.

The correct seating position means that the driver’s back is firmly pressed against the seat back, and the hands on the steering wheel remain slightly bent at the elbows. This is necessary so that the steering wheel can be turned quickly and accurately without having to pull the body forward. If the driver leans toward the steering wheel or does not rest against the seat back, the body loses stability, the arms tire more quickly, and in an emergency, control over the vehicle is reduced.

It is equally important that the legs reach the pedals without overstraining: when pressing the pedal, the leg should remain slightly bent at the knee. If the seat is adjusted incorrectly, the driver either stretches to reach the pedals or sits too close, which reduces pedal control accuracy and increases fatigue while driving.

A separate sign of a properly prepared driver’s seat according to the Traffic Rules is the use of a seat belt. Even if someone feels “more comfortable” without a seat belt, this is not a correct seating position, because the driver is required to be buckled up, and an unbuckled driver violates the Rules and increases the risk of injury.

Therefore, the correct answer is “No.”, since the shown seating position does not meet the requirements for safe driving: the driver does not have proper back support, does not ensure proper control of the controls, and/or ignores mandatory safety elements (seat belt).
