33.7.24. With which of the road signs can the depicted plate be installed?
UAЗ яким із дорожніх знаків може бути встановлена зображена табличка?
This exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine tests attentiveness to road signs and additional plates, which directly affect the safety and order of parking. In real conditions, it is the correct “reading” of the combination of a sign and a plate that helps avoid conflicts, fines, and, most importantly, ensures the accessibility of infrastructure for those road users who have priority needs.
The question belongs to section 33 of the Traffic Rules of Ukraine: 7 “Plates to road signs,” specifically plate 7.17 “Persons with disabilities.” According to the content of the Traffic Rules, this plate is not independent and is used only to clarify the action of a specific informational-indicative sign 5.42.1 “Parking place.” That is, it changes the general meaning of “parking allowed” to a special one: parking is intended only for vehicles displaying the “Driver with a disability” identification sign (or those used for transporting persons with disabilities in accordance with the requirements of the Traffic Rules).
When analyzing the answer options, it is important to remember that plates are placed directly under the sign whose effect they clarify or restrict (point 33.7). That is why only the option depicting sign 5.42.1 is correct: other signs in the list do not indicate a “parking place,” and therefore cannot be correctly “narrowed” by plate 7.17. In the theoretical exam, such tasks test not memorization of pictures, but understanding of the logic of using plates in the traffic rules and the ability to recognize where exactly a special parking place for drivers with disabilities is created.
Clause 33.7 (general provisions) — 33 "Road signs", 7 "Plates to road signs"
Plates to road signs specify or limit the effect of road signs. Plates are placed directly under the signs with which they are used.
Clause 33.7.17 — 33 "Road signs", 7 "Plates to road signs", plate 7.17 "Persons with disabilities"
Plate 7.17 "Persons with disabilities" means that the effect of sign 5.42.1 "Parking place" applies only to motor wheelchairs and cars bearing the identification sign "Driver with a disability" in accordance with the requirements of these Rules.
Explanation of use: according to its definition in the Traffic Rules, this plate is used specifically to clarify the effect of sign 5.42.1 (parking only for vehicles marked as being driven/used for transporting persons with disabilities).
Clause 33.5.42.1 — 33 "Road signs", 5 "Information and guidance signs", sign 5.42.1 "Parking place"
Sign 5.42.1 "Parking place" is used to indicate places and areas for parking vehicles.
Explanation of use: in combination with plate 7.17, this sign indicates that the respective parking place is intended only for vehicles that meet the conditions of the plate.
That is, the correct answer is "With sign 4.", given that according to the definition in the Traffic Rules, plate 7.17 "Persons with disabilities" exclusively clarifies (specifies) the effect of sign 5.42.1 "Parking place", which is shown under number 4.
Plate 7.17 “Persons with Disabilities” belongs to additional plates and is not used independently. Its content and purpose are defined in Section 33 of the Traffic Rules: it specifies that the effect of the main sign applies only to vehicles operated by drivers with disabilities or transporting persons with disabilities, and which have the appropriate identification mark.
According to the rules of use, this plate is used for specially designating a parking space. That is, it only makes sense together with a sign that indicates a parking place, and in this case, it changes the general meaning of this sign to “parking only for persons with disabilities.”
Among the proposed options, such a sign is 5.42.1 “Parking Place” (in the task, it is marked as number 4). It is precisely under this sign that plate 7.17 is installed directly to indicate that parking in this place is not allowed for everyone, but only for a specific category of vehicles.
The other signs in the list do not correspond to the purpose of plate 7.17, as they do not indicate a parking place that can be “reserved” for persons with disabilities in this format. Therefore, there is only one correct option.
Thus, the correct answer is “With sign 4.”, since plate 7.17 according to the Traffic Rules is used specifically together with sign 5.42.1 “Parking Place”, restricting parking in this spot only to persons with disabilities.
