33.3.82. In which direction is the tractor allowed to move in this situation?
UAУ якому напрямку дозволено рух трактора в даній ситуації?
This exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine concerns the safe passage through intersections and the ability to correctly apply road signs with additional plates. In real traffic, a driver must not simply "see the sign," but understand for which vehicles it applies and which specific maneuvers it restricts. Such situations are often tested in the theoretical exam because a mistake in interpreting a prohibitory sign at an intersection leads to a violation of traffic rules and creates risks for other road users.
The question tests knowledge of Section 33 of the Traffic Rules, in particular the prohibitory sign 3.3 "No entry for trucks" and plate 7.3.3 "Direction of action." It is important to remember that sign 3.3 restricts not only trucks with a permitted maximum mass over 3.5 tons (unless another mass is indicated), but also tractors, self-propelled machines, and mechanisms regardless of mass. Plate 7.3.3 specifies in which directions at the intersection this prohibition applies: in the diagram, left and right turns are prohibited, while straight movement and U-turns are not restricted by the plate.
If we analyze the answer options, combinations that include left or right turns are incorrect, because these are exactly the maneuvers restricted by sign 3.3 together with plate 7.3.3. Therefore, the option "only B" is incomplete (a U-turn is also allowed), the options "A and B" and "A, B, and G" include prohibited maneuvers, and "in all directions" contradicts the requirements of the prohibitory sign. Thus, the correct option remains the one that indicates only the permitted maneuvers without left/right turns, which demonstrates the correct application of the rules at the intersection.
Clause 33.3 — 33 "Road Signs", 3 "Prohibitory Signs", sign 3.3 "Movement of trucks prohibited"
Sign 3.3 "Movement of trucks prohibited" prohibits the movement of trucks and combinations of vehicles with a permitted maximum mass of more than 3.5 t (unless a different mass is specified on the sign) or exceeding the mass indicated on the sign, as well as tractors, self-propelled machines, and mechanisms.
Does not apply: • to vehicles serving citizens or belonging to citizens who live or work in this area, as well as to vehicles serving enterprises located in the designated area. In such cases, vehicles must enter and exit the designated area at the intersection closest to the destination; • to trucks that have a slanted white stripe on the external side surface or are transporting groups of people.
The area of effect of the sign is from the place of installation to the nearest intersection beyond it, and in populated areas where there are no intersections — to the end of the populated area. The effect of the sign is not interrupted at exits from adjacent territories to the road and at intersections (junctions) with field, forest, and other unpaved roads, before which no priority signs are installed.
This question checks that the effect of sign 3.3 applies, in particular, to tractors, and also that the prohibition concerns only those directions that are additionally specified by the supplementary plate.
Clause 33.7 — 33 "Road Signs", 7 "Supplementary plates to road signs", plate 7.3.3 "Direction of effect"
Plate 7.3.3 "Direction of effect" indicates the direction of effect of signs placed before an intersection, or the direction of movement to designated objects located directly near the road. The plate is placed directly under the signs with which it is used.
This question checks that in the presence of plate 7.3.3, the prohibition established by sign 3.3 applies only in the directions indicated by it (at the intersection — left and right), and in other directions (straight and U-turn) — does not apply.
That is, the correct answer is "B and D.", considering that according to the definition of the Traffic Rules, sign 3.3 prohibits the movement of a tractor only in the directions indicated by plate 7.3.3 (left and right), therefore movement straight and U-turn are not prohibited.
In this situation, a prohibitory sign 3.3 "Movement of trucks prohibited" with an additional plate 7.3.3 "Direction of action" is installed at the approach to the intersection. For the exam, it is important to remember that sign 3.3 applies not only to trucks over 3.5 tons (unless another weight is specified), but also to tractors, self-propelled machines, and mechanisms. That is, the tractor falls under the effect of this sign regardless of its weight.
Next, you need to correctly "read" plate 7.3.3. It specifies in which directions at the intersection the prohibition established by the sign above it applies. On the diagram, the plate shows that the prohibition concerns turning right and turning left. Therefore, the tractor is prohibited from moving in the directions corresponding to these turns (in the illustration, these are A and B).
At the same time, the plate does not indicate a prohibition for going straight or for making a U-turn. This means that the requirement of sign 3.3 at this location does not apply to these maneuvers, and the tractor may continue straight or make a U-turn, provided other conditions (markings, traffic light signals, other signs) do not prevent this.
Therefore, the correct answer is "B and G," since sign 3.3 together with plate 7.3.3 prohibits the tractor from turning only left and right, while going straight and making a U-turn are allowed in this situation.
