Question without image
This is an exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine concerning safety during driver training: how a vehicle should be equipped so that the instructor can control the situation and, in case of danger, intervene immediately. The logic of the requirements is simple: a learner is behind the wheel, their actions may be slower or unpredictable, so it is important both to warn other road users and to provide technical means to prevent accidents.
The question tests knowledge of the section of the Traffic Rules regarding driver training, specifically clause 24.8 of the Traffic Rules of Ukraine, as well as related requirements for identification signs from clause 30.3 (subclause "k"). The theoretical exam often includes the list of mandatory equipment: identification signs "Training/Educational Vehicle" (according to the rules — installed at the front and rear), duplicate pedals for the instructor (braking, as well as clutch and accelerator if the vehicle design allows/performs it), and a separate rear-view mirror or mirrors for the driver training specialist.
If you analyze the options, just a sign alone does not fulfill the requirements for instructor control, and only pedals without mirrors do not provide a full opportunity to assess the situation behind; likewise, a mirror without duplicate pedals does not guarantee that the instructor can stop the car at a critical moment. That is why the correct combination for this exam question includes all three elements: the training vehicle marking, additional pedals, and mirrors for the instructor — this complies with the direct rule of the traffic regulations and makes the most practical sense on the road.
Clause 24.8
Vehicles (except motorcycles, mopeds, and quadricycles) used for training must have identification signs "Training vehicle" in accordance with the requirements of subparagraph "k" of clause 30.3 of these Rules. Vehicles (except buses) used for training must also be equipped with additional clutch pedals (if the vehicle design provides for a clutch pedal), accelerator (if the vehicle design allows for such a pedal), and brake pedals, as well as a rear-view mirror or mirrors for the driver training specialist.
This clause directly specifies the mandatory equipment for a training vehicle: identification sign, duplicate pedals (depending on the design), and rear-view mirror(s) for the instructor (driver training specialist).
Clause 30.3 (subparagraph "k" — identification sign "Training vehicle")
"Training vehicle" — a white square with a red border, with a black letter "U" inside — is installed at the front and rear of mechanical vehicles (except motorcycles, mopeds, and quadricycles) used for driver training.
This subparagraph clarifies exactly what the identification sign should look like and where it should be installed, as referenced in clause 24.8.
Thus, the correct answer is "Correct answers 1, 2, and 3.", given that according to the definition of the Traffic Rules, training vehicles must be marked with the "Training vehicle" identification sign and (for vehicles used for training, except buses) equipped with duplicate pedals and rear-view mirror(s) for the driver training specialist.
When a car is systematically used for driver training, the Traffic Rules require it to be modified so that the instructor can fully control the situation and, if necessary, intervene immediately. This is directly related to safety, as the person behind the wheel is a student who does not yet have established driving skills.
Firstly, such a car must have an identification sign "Training Vehicle." The purpose of this sign is practical: other road users are aware in advance that the vehicle's actions may be slower or less predictable (for example, when starting on an incline or performing maneuvers), and therefore they choose a safer distance and behavior.
Secondly, a training vehicle (except in cases provided for by the rules) must be equipped with additional, i.e., duplicate pedals for the instructor. Primarily, this is the brake pedal, as well as the clutch pedal if the vehicle is equipped with one, and the accelerator pedal if the design allows its installation. In practice, this enables the instructor to stop the car in case of danger or to assist during the initial stages of training, when the student may abruptly release the clutch or misjudge the speed.
Thirdly, there must be a mirror or mirrors specifically for the driver training specialist. The instructor must be able to see the traffic situation behind just as the student does, in order to assess risks in a timely manner (for example, when another vehicle is rapidly approaching from behind during lane changes or stops).
Therefore, the correct answer is "Correct answers 1, 2, and 3," since, according to clause 24.8 of the Traffic Rules, a training vehicle must be marked with an identification sign, have duplicate pedals for the instructor (where provided by the design), and rear-view mirrors for the instructor.
