This is an exam question from the Traffic Rules of Ukraine about safety when performing maneuvers at intersections, where the trajectory of a car intersects with the movement of a cyclist on a bicycle lane. Such situations are typical in cities and often lead to accidents during right turns, which is why the theoretical exam regularly includes checks on priority and the ability to “yield” to more vulnerable road users.

The question tests the section of the traffic rules regarding passing intersections and making turns, specifically the requirement of point 16.2: at regulated and unregulated intersections, the driver, when turning right or left, must yield to cyclists moving straight in the same direction. It is also important to understand the term “yield” from point 1.10: the driver does not have the right to continue the maneuver if this would force the cyclist to change speed or direction. An additional hint in such tasks is often marking 1.15, which indicates a bicycle crossing and warns of a possible conflict of trajectories.

The explanation of the answer options comes down to the fact that the argument “I am driving on the main road” does not cancel the obligation to yield when turning: both participants may be moving on the main road, but the priority at the moment of crossing trajectories is determined precisely by point 16.2. Similarly, the statement that since the cyclist is on a bicycle path/lane, he is “separate” and can be ignored is incorrect: on the contrary, the lane is intended for cyclists, the car is prohibited from occupying it to prepare for a maneuver, and when turning, it may only cross it, having first ensured that it does not create an obstacle for those moving straight.

The practical rule for preparing for the theoretical exam is simple: at an intersection, the one who changes direction (turns) must yield to those moving straight alongside in the same direction, including cyclists. This reduces the risk of the most common conflict—“right turn and cyclist going straight”—and helps correctly apply the Traffic Rules of Ukraine in real traffic.

Clause 16.2

At regulated and unregulated intersections, the driver, when turning right or left, must give way to pedestrians crossing the roadway onto which he is turning, as well as to cyclists moving straight in the same direction.

Explanation of application: when turning right, the trajectory of the car crosses the direction of the cyclist moving straight in the same direction (including on a bicycle lane), so the driver is obliged to yield (give way) to the cyclist.

Clause 1.10 (term "Give way (do not create an obstacle)")

Give way (do not create an obstacle) — a requirement for a road user not to continue or resume movement, not to make any maneuver, if this may force other road users who have the right of way to change their direction or speed.

Explanation of application: the driver, when making a turn, must not force the cyclist, who has priority according to clause 16.2, to change speed or direction.

Clause 34.1 — 34 "Road markings", 1 "Horizontal markings", marking 1.15

Marking 1.15 — indicates the place where a bicycle path (or bicycle lane) crosses the roadway.

Explanation of application: the presence of marking 1.15 additionally indicates to the driver the intersection of trajectories with cyclists in the intersection/crossing area and the need to act taking into account the priority according to clause 16.2.

That is, the correct answer is "Must give way.", given that according to the definition of the Traffic Rules, when turning at an intersection, the driver is obliged to give way to a cyclist moving straight in the same direction (clause 16.2), that is, not to create an obstacle for him (the term "Give way" from clause 1.10).

In this situation, a bicycle lane is designated on the roadway, along which the cyclist is moving straight in the same direction. The intersection is uncontrolled, and both the car and the cyclist are traveling on the main road, which means both have the right to continue moving.

The driver of the car turns on the turn signal and intends to turn right. During such a maneuver, the trajectory of the car crosses the direction of the cyclist, who continues to go straight in their lane. At the same time, the driver does not have the right to enter or drive along the bicycle lane, as it is intended for cyclists, and for the car it is only a space that can be crossed while making a turn, without creating obstacles.

That is why the requirement of paragraph 16.2 of the Traffic Rules of Ukraine applies here: at intersections, when making a right or left turn, the driver is obliged to yield to cyclists who are moving straight in the same direction. That is, the cyclist's right to continue moving straight is preserved, and the driver who is changing direction must let them pass and only then complete the turn.

Therefore, the correct answer is "Must yield," since when turning right at an intersection, according to paragraph 16.2, the driver is obliged to yield to a cyclist who is moving straight in the same direction along the bicycle lane.
